TEAM JAZZ STARTS TO BRING HOME THE BACON

Just one month in and the inaugural members of Team Jazz are already off to a flying start. Barely a day goes by without news coming through of another victory, medal or podium finish.

The month commenced with young snowboarder Lewis Courtier-Jones competing in the Burton Tour stop in Landgraaf, Holland. Finishing 7th saw Lewis’s TTR world ranking rise to around 130 – not bad for a 13 year old!  If this wasn’t enough for the young tyke, last week Lewis took 1st Place at the Rossignol Tour Val Thorens in France beating some of the best young snow boarders in Europe.

Basketball star Harry Turner has also been busy over the Christmas period, heading down to Dover on Boxing Day to play for the England Under 16 squad in Belgium. With around twenty teams competing from all over the world, Harry’s team finished outright winners with the big man from Milton Keynes putting in some superlative performances.  Harry didn’t get any chance to rest though as he was soon heading over to the International Lundaspelen Tournament with his regional squad.  With over 319 Teams competing and 779 games being played over the three days, Harry’s side unfortunately lost in the semi-finals but not before Harry had won one game with a last minute three pointer and finished top scorer in another.

It has also been a great last four weeks for Tae Kwon Do with Martin Morgan competing in the Southern Championships in Devon. Due to injuries Martin had been unable to train for the competition, yet despite this he picked up medals in every event he entered. Martin is now the Southern U16 Patterns and Team Sparring Champion, and Sparring Silver Medalist – losing out on the gold by only one point to the current under 16 British Sparring champion.

Gifted rower Helen Glover also had a productive month as she cleaned up at the Wycliffe Head race meeting in mid December where she took gold in both of her two races.

Finally Kitty Wallace has been casting her talents far and wide. She came 1st in the latest round of the Southern Indoor Bouldering League (SIBL) competition, gave a talk at the Castle Climbing Wall about the 8a climb she completed in Kalymnos and to top it all off she appeared in the Nutcracker Circus at the Riverside Studios on 3rd and 4th January.

More on the rest of the Team next month!
