TIM EMMETT LEAPS INTO THE RECORD BOOKS

Extreme sport athlete and Jazz Apple spokesperson Tim Emmett became the first person to BASE jump off The Old Man of Hoy this week as he continues to raise the profile of extreme sports with the aim of getting more people living active and healthy lives.

Situated on the Island of Hoy in the Orkney Islands, The Old Man of Hoy is the UK’s tallest sea stack at 137 metres high and is known as being one of the most gruelling and famous climbs in Britain.

Best known for his four podium positions in the Ice Climbing World Championships and his unforgettable race with Jeremy Clarkson up the Verdon Gorge on Top Gear, Tim set off climbing The Old Man of Hoy on Wednesday morning with fellow BASE jumpers Gus Hutchison-Brown and Roger Holmes.

After reaching the summit in seven hours due to the trio having to carry up all their equipment, the jump eventually took place at 9 pm with the team touching down safely at the bottom in less than 10 seconds.

Tim Emmett comments: “The jump couldn’t have gone better although after an arduous climb like that, it would have been nice to freefall a little longer.  Due to the wind turbulence created between the stack and the mainland and because we were landing on rocks it made the jump extremely difficult but we all got down in one piece.  I would give the jump a 9/10 difficulty rating which just adds to the sense of achievement.”

Tim Emmett is currently sponsored by Jazz Apples and is running a series of motivational talks promoting healthy eating and living while sharing his unique positive philosophy.

Tim comments: “It’s just awesome!  I’ve been going round schools, colleges, universities and even corporate companies, talking about what I do, and how to live more healthily, not just through your diet but also your attitude. It sounds simple, but these small actions can be the start of something big.  With many kids nowadays choosing computers instead of getting outdoors and competing in sports, I feel I have a real opportunity to excite kids and let them know that there is more to life than completing a level on the Playstation. ”
