WHAT'S HAPPENING TEAM?

After a busy summer for the boys and girls of Team Jazz here’s the latest.

• Tae Kwondo Champ Martin Morgan has returned to training after a frustrating 8 months out with a back injury. During his recovery Martin dedicated his time to coaching and his role as a Sport in the Community leader. Back on the mat he’s looking forward to the National Championships in November.

• Rowing Ace Helen Glover is training hard for the first round of Team GB trials in November. Having won the Single Sculls at Women’s Henley and picking up a gold at the Nationals in the Quads she’s really impressed selectors this summer. Her Jazz sponsorship has recently helped her to buy a brand new boat which has made training and competing a lot easier.

• London Climber Kitty Wallace has been jet setting this summer competing in the World Championships in France and the European Youth Series in Austria and Germany. Currently ranked 8th in the World for her age group, in her next tournament she’ll be representing the UK against Europe’s best in the Russian outpost of Kaliningrad!

• Snowboarder Lewis Courtier-Jones has spent the summer training at the Woodward at Copper Snowboard Camp in the States and is looking forward to winter and the start of the season. This October he will be here in the UK competing in the Freeze Festival Battle of Britain Big Air contest in London. Here’s a video of Lewis CJ ripping it up and here’s a video of CJ Lewis. 

• Cyclist Chris Whorrall is fast following in the footsteps of fellow Manx and Olympic gold medal winner Mark Cavendish, putting in a superb performance at the European Junior Track Championships in Belarus this Summer to come home with the European Junior Madison title and a bronze in the Scratch race.

This winter he will be competing in the Revolution Series at the Manchester Velodrome and is hoping to make it on to the British Academy team for training in the New Year.

• Cyclist Gabriella Shaw is on the road to recovery having succumbed to a shoulder injury and is back in the saddle. She hopes to be competing again by November in the Revolution Track Meets. Her goal this year is to continue her progress to 2012 as part of the Olympic Development Programme.

• Basketballer Harry Turner is buzzing having helped England U16 to a 3rd place finish in the European Championships in Portugal and can’t wait for this year’s season to get underway with BBL club team the MK Lions.

• Beach Volleyball player Kim Smith has ended a successful season finishing 7th in the Volleyball England Beach Tour. Kim and team mate Phoebe competed in tournaments across the country in Margate, Weymouth, Croyde and Great Yarmouth. During the winter she will be keeping her eye in playing indoor volleyball for Leeds Uni.

• Tim Linsell hopes to win a place in the RYA Youth National Squad with an exciting season of regattas this Autumn. The nationals on the 24-28th August saw Tim and team mate Ben Clegg face tempest like conditions with 25mph winds and 2ft waves. Although the lads didn't place highly in the end (due to 2 contentious disqualifications) they were one of the few boats to remain intact and Tim sees the experience of these harsh conditions as invaluable to his future racing career.
