Team Jazz Sailor Youngest Ever Winner of Lark Nationals

Jazz Apples

Confident that his hard work and dedication over the last eight months would pay off, Tim Linsell, who was the Team Jazz’s resident sailor, reaped what he sowed. In August Tim became the youngest ever winner of the annual Lark Nationals held in Abersoch, North Wales, finishing first with a day to spare. An immense personal victory for 18 year old Tim, who crewed with Alan Krailing, the achievement gives him deserved recognition for his progress over the past year.
For the less sailing savvy, a Lark is a two-person, non-trapeze sailing boat, made of glass-reinforced plastic and is a one-design class which leads to very close racing and remains one of the fastest non-trapeze boats available. Making the above achievement very impressive from Tim!
Tim’s passion for sailing started when he was just 7 years old and he has set his sights high, aiming to qualify for the 2016 Olympics. His latest accomplishment has no doubt started to pave the way to achieving this. Off next to compete in the annual Royal Corinthian Yacht Club (RCYC) Endeavour Championships in early October, this competition is unique in the UK dinghy sailing world and provides Tim with the chance of becoming the “champion of champions”. There is no doubt that Tim’s skill and expertise will make him shine in the competition and the Jazz fraternity will be supporting him all the way. Held on the rough waters of the rivers Crouch and Roach, this is an invitation only event, with only the UK’s most elite sailors being invited. Hats off to Tim!

Once the waters calm, Tim will be off to Southampton University to start his career as a fully fledged student. His main concern was to still be close to the water so he could continue doing what he loves with the aim of sailing full time after he graduates.

Best of luck to you Tim and I’m sure your medals will go down a storm during fresher’s week!
